   Similar species: Gluphisia septentrionis (in the Notodontidae) has a much less hairy abdomen.

   Similar species: Other Tolype and Apotolype brevicrista, side-by-side key.
3. Tolype glenwoodii [ MONA 7676 ]
   Similar species: Dark male T. glenwoodii can be almost as dark as male nigricaria, but can be distinguished by a distinct notch in the postmedial line of the forewing of nigricaria.
