    Source: Reported by Ron Leuschner (1992, J. Lep. Society 46: 159) from the north side of Tucson (11 Aug 1974) and from Madera Cyn. (22, 25 Aug 1946; 17, 20 Aug 1949). Second record by Cliff Ferris for Pima Co., Tortolita, 19 Aug., 2007.
    Similar Species:
    1. Heterocampa obliqua is much larger (47 mm vs. 33 mm). D. captiosa has a large oval yellow-brown patch on the forewing, that starts at the reniform and extends outward towards the apex and out margin.
