Assignment for Monday, 6 December 1999

READ

Sangoram AM et al. (1998). "Mammalian circadian autoregulatory loop: a Timeless ortholog and mPer1 interact and negatively regulate CLOCK-BMAL1-induced transcription"

WRITE:

  1. Generate a hypothesis based on the data in this paper that has NOT yet been fully tested. You may incorporate information from any other papers we have covered as well.
  2. Assume that you are the head of a well-established lab with lots of people and research resources. Design a set of experiments (at least two distinctive ones) to test your hypothesis. Explain how these experiments will allow the hypothesis to be either supported or disproven. In other words, if your hypothesis is correct, what experimental results would you expect?

Note: for this final assignment, please pay close attention to the coherency of your writing, including basic mechanics (grammar, spelling, punctuation!), use of terminology (be clear about which gene or protein, which species, etc.) and the logic of the arguments you present.
